There is definitely a great divide between Primary and Secondary. I think that it is a priceless experience being able to see things from both sides. I am reverse to you, I am Secondary trained, but have inadvertently done a bit of work in Primary.

In regards to reading skills and strategies, I completely agree with modelling those practises that you do yourself. However, I think there is something to be said about ‘when’ those strategies are taught, as well as by whom. Just as reading and responding cannot be separated, personally I feel that the teaching of ‘reading’ skills cannot truly be done outside of a context. Therefore it is the responsibility of all teachers.
